Kansas Algebra Program

All major exams in Math 002 and Math 101 are taken outside of class time in the Mathematics Testing Room, Strong 324. Class scheduled on an exam day will be held and new material will be covered.

To take a test in the Kansas Algebra Program, you will need to show your KUID. The KUID will be checked when the exam is distributed and again when the exam is turned in.

Student work is graded on partial credit. Appropriate algebraic processes are expected unless stated otherwise on the exam. Graded exams are returned in class.

Notes and scratch paper are not allowed on any exam. KAP reserves the right to clear memory on calculators if necessary.

Keep all of your exams for your records and to verify recording of scores. Questions about the grading on an exam should be brought to the Window in Strong 322. No scores will be changed without the original document.

Fall Semester: Exams are administered over a two-day period. Students are assigned a specific day based on the KUID.

Group A - KUID ends in 0 - 4
Group B - KUID ends in 5 - 9

Spring Semester: Exams in Math 002 are administered on a single assigned day. Exams in Math 101 are administered over a two-day period as in the fall.

You are expected to take the exam with your assigned group. A penalty is assessed for taking an exam one day later than the assigned day. When Group B is assigned a Friday exam, there is no one day late option.

Arrangements can be made for missed exams due to illness, University activities, or other situations which can be documented. Students who miss a scheduled exam should Contact Us immediately to arrange for an extension.

A student with no valid excuse for missing an exam will receive a grade of 0 for that exam.

The use of a graphing calculator is integrated throughout the course and students should be acquainted with this tool. A TI-83, TI-83 plus, or TI-84 calculator is required for both courses and will be the only calculators used in the classroom. If you have a different but comparable calculator, you will be responsible for knowing how to operate it; no class time will be available for assistance. Calculators with QWERTY keyboards or those that do symbolic algebra such as the HP48G, Casio FX2, Casio 9970Gx, TI-89, or TI-92 cannot be used in class or during any exam.

Calculator memory may be viewed during any exam and will be cleared if any unauthorized material is noted. [This includes, but is not limited to, notes, sample problems, special programs, or formulas related to the course material.] The Kansas Algebra Program has the right to regard finding unauthorized material in your calculator memory as cheating. You will be asked to stop using your calculator and use a KAP calculator instead. All observed incidents of unauthorized calculator use will be reviewed by the KAP Director.

The use of notes, books, or old exams is expressly forbidden on all exams. You must remain in the room with your exam. You may not talk. Any form of cheating on an exam may result in at least lowering your final grade in the course by one letter grade. Additionally, you will receive a score of 0 on the exam with NO chance for a retake.

In all cases of academic dishonesty, such as cheating or plagiarism, the incident will be reported to the course coordinator, department chair, and the College committee for disciplinary action.

Any attempt to have another student take an exam for you will result in a grade of F in the course and both students may be expelled from the University.
