Minor in Mathematics
Students getting a bachelor's degree (B.S., B.A., or B.G.S.) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with a major in another field, may earn a minor in mathematics. Students getting degrees in the School of Engineering can also earn a minor in math. The requirements are the same for both the College and the School of Engineering.
The minimum course requirements for the minor are completion of 18 credit hours of mathematics courses, at least 12 hours of which must be numbered 300 and above, but not including Math 365. The grade point average for all mathematics courses must be at least 2.0.
Students who have completed MATH 223 and 290 have many choices for the four upper-level courses. The following courses have only a MATH 122 or 290 prerequisite, and thus can be taken without MATH 223: 526, 540, 558, 559, 601, 605, 611.
A math minor allows you to focus on the mathematics that is more relevant and interesting to you. For more information or guidance on courses, make an appointment with a math department adviser.
