Undergraduate Scholarships: Award Funds

The following award funds have been established by friends and alumni of the University of Kansas.

THE JOHN BUNCE MEMORIAL AWARD

This award was established in 1992 in memory of Professor Bunce by gifts from his family and friends to provide awards for deserving graduate students in mathematics. Professor Bunce was a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics from 1970 to 1991. The award commemorates his extraordinary concern for the welfare and intellectual development of graduate students.

THE RALPH BYERS STUDENT AWARD

This award was established in 2008 in memory of Professor Byers by gifts from his family and friends to honor his long time commitment to numerical analysis. Professor Byers was a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics from 1987 to 2007. This award is presented to outstanding graduate students in numerical analysis.

THE JOAN KIRKHAM MATHEMATICS OPPORTUNITY FUND

This scholarship was established in 2002 by a gift from Joan Kirkham to provide funding for students and/or faculty members presenting papers at meetings of professional organizations, summer research awards, and recruitment expenses. Joan Kirkham received her bachelor's degree in mathematics from KU in 1948.
