Information for students who need to enroll for Spring 2005
The courses Math 220, Math 223, and Math 290 are in the timetable now. They will be offered at the following times.
Comparison of older sequences vs new sequences Math 223 together with Math 290 will be equivalent to Math 123. Math 220 together with Math 290 will be equivalent to Math 250. Math 124, third semester calculus, is a sophomore level course and will renumbered as Math 223. The following tables summarize these changes
OLD COURSES
The new sequences allow greater flexibility and choice. Students can take any combination of the three courses to tailor their individual needs.
NEW COURSES
What are the differences between Math 220 and Math 320? Math 220, Applied Differential Equations, and Math 320, Elementary Differential Equations, will continue to be offered. The topics in both courses will be quite similar. The emphasis in Math 220 will be more in the applications. Math 320 will be slightly more theoretical. The prerequisites for the courses will be different. Math 220 will require Math 122 and Math 320 will continue to require Math 123 or equivalent (now Math 223 and Math 290). Math 143 and Math 321 will continue to be offered. Effect on prerequisites for higher level courses The prerequisites for higher level math courses will be changed with the equivalent courses. That is, Math 123 will be replaced by Math 223 and Math 290. Math 250 will be replaced by Math 220 and Math 290. |
