This page will show you how to set up mail filters through the webmail application. Setting up filters through the webmail application will affect all E-mail delivered to your account, regardless of whether you use webmail or not to read your mail. I will walk you through setting up a simple mail filter which should help you in setting up your own custom filter.
First you must log into webmail. Go to https://www.math.ku.edu/mail. You may want to right-click this link, (or hold down the "control" key on a Mac), and select "Open in a new window" so you can keep this page handy.

When you log into the webmail interface, if the "Mail" menu isn't already expanded, you will need to click on the "+" to expand the "Mail" menu.

Once you have expanded the "Mail" menu, you will need to select "Filters".

When you select "Filters" your predefined rules will show up. Every user gets a set of predefined rules that by default does nothing except for the Spam Filter rule, which files messages marked as "Spam" into the folder "filtered-spam", by default. The "Move" category allows you to move your rules around, so they can be processed in the order you want them to. Click on "New Rule" to add a rule to the filters.

In the "Filter Rule" screen you can setup your new rule. You can select messages by one or more criterion, and available fields are: To, Subject, Sender, From, CC, BCC, Resent-from, Resent-to, List-ID, Received, X-Spam-Level, X-Spam-Score, X-Spam-Status, X-Priority, Size, or you can add your own self-defined header.

In this case we are going to match messages when the "From" field contains the word "spammer". We define the action as "Deliver to folder:" and pick "filtered-spam" as the folder to deliver to. Click on "Save" to save the rule.

After we click on save, you will be brought back to the menu, and you will receive a notice message that you changes have been saved and that the new script has been successfully activated on the mail server.
