Extra Review sessions for the MidTerm exam

We will have extra review sessions for the midterm exam, on
 /tuesday oct 7 at 9pm/sunday 12 oct at 6pm/ monday oct 13 at 9pm/
all review session will take place in snow 156 ,our regularly scheduled lectures room, however since the main entrance to the bldg may be shut at those time, I will be standing in front of the main entrance to the bldg, just prior to the session.

The Midterm is scheduled on
 Oct 14th  from 5:45-7:45pm
 in 3092 Malott.

Students with special needs have to obtain a form by the appropiate office in order to be able to take the version of the MidTerm reserved for students that needs extra time, they must comunicate to me and to our course supervisor Dr. Xu their intention to be signed onto the list of student that will be taking that version of the Exam, so that proper arrangement can be made in due time to accomodate their request.

A list of review problems, as well as a sample Midterm exam, are available on the class main page, students are strongly encouraged to download them and go thru the problems, however students must be aware that these problems should serve as a sample and are not to be taken as for what literally will appear on the actual exam.
We will address questions from those list during our regularly scheduled lectures on Monday Oct13, and Tuesday Oct14.

Calculator:A graphing calculator is required for this course. A TI-83/83Plus/84plus calculator is recommended.You are allowed to use such a calculator on midterm and final exams, but not on the Gateway exams.

Grading Breakdown: This class is graded out of 1000 points. The breakdown is as follows:

Midterm Exam: 200 points

Final Exam: 300 points

Gateway: 100 points

In-Class Exams: 200 points

Homework and Quizzes: 200 points

Grading Scale: It is expected that grades will be awarded on a percentage basis with 90% and above an A; 80% - 89% a B; 70% - 79% a C; 60% - 69% a D, 0% - 59% an F.

Gateway: The Gateway Exam is a test of skills that are important to this math class. Each stage consists of 10 questions, and you must get at least 8 right to pass. There are two parts, the Online Gateway, which is worth 10 points, and the In-Lab Gateway, which is worth 90 points. You must pass the Online Gateway to be eligible to take the In-Lab Gateway. Homework: Homework will be assigned periodically and collected. Assignments will be posted on the homework page: http://www.math.ku.edu/~fbrondi/.
Homework is due at the beginning of class, and no late assignments will be accepted.
Attendance: You are expected to be in class every day. You are responsible for all material covered and any announcements made in class, whether you are present or not.
Quizzes: Short quizzes may be given throughout the semester.
Exams: Two in-class exams will be given during the semester. If you have a valid reason for missing an in-class exam, you should discuss alternate arrangements with me before the exam. If you miss an exam due to an emergency, contact me as soon as possible.
Grade Dispute: Graded exams are returned during class to the student. If a student wishes to discuss the exam grade, it must be done within two weeks following the date of the exam. Under some circumstances you may be asked to explain your complaint in writing.

Academic Misconduct: According to University Senate Rules and Regulations, Section 6, Academic Misconduct is :

Homework assignments, working in groups, tutors: Students may discuss the homework problems in groups, but each student is responsible for doing his/her own work and in turning in his/her individual solutions. When a student works with a tutor, it is the responsibility of both the student and the tutor to ensure that it is the student who works to arrive at the solutions of the problems. Tutors should not do students' homework for them or provide them the solutions for their instructors' assignments.
Intellectual Property: Course materials prepared by the instructor, together with the content of all lectures and review sessions presented by the instructor are the property of the instructor. Video and audio recording of lectures and review sessions without the consent of the instructor is prohibited. Permission to make such recordings may be granted by the instructor on a case by case basis, on the condition that these recordings are used only as a study aid by the individual making the recording.
