Tarski's

upon which much of the homework will be based.

Prerequisite:

EECS 310, or MATH 450, or MATH 588, or MATH 590.

Propositional Logic:
|
the alphabet, satisfiability and logical truth, methods of proof, formal
proofs.
|
|
Quantifiers:
|
syntax, semantics, methods of proof, mixed quantifiers, paraphrasing English.

Applications:
|
Set theory and induction.
|
|
Advanced topics:
|
Horn sentences, resolution, Skolemization and unification.
|
|
There may be extra time towards the end of the semester
to add topics not covered in the text.

Homework will be handed in nearly every week, and will be usually due on
Monday.
While much of the homework will be based on the program Tarski's
World, I will not ask you to hand in discs or send files by e-mail.

Grades will be based on: 25% for the homework, 21
% for each of the tests, and 33 % for the final.
