08/03/06 - 22:04To KCI againnn
Wen called from Chicago airport this morning, saying that their flight to KCI would be on time. I called Zheyan's cellphone, and Lina answered. She had a headache, and was staying at home. I asked her to tell Zheyan to call me when he came back. Then I called Xuefeng. He had already met with his advisor in the morning, and would have the time to go with me to the airport.
Then we went back to my apartment to have lunch. Then Zheyan called back, and I asked to borrow his car. I knew he would be busy with research, and also needed to take care of Lina. Then I picked up the key at his apartment, and everything was ready. Xuefeng was watching the TV, and I was reading the novel Lu Ding Ji (鹿鼎记), just for fun.
It was 1:40pm, and we started out. I drove Zheyan's car, and Xuefeng drove mine (which was his several months ago). I planned to take I-70, but preferred K-10 today. Then we drove along K-10, then I-435 N all the way to the airport. It was about 2:46pm. We parked, then went into the airport. I checked the flight, and it had arrived on time (2:20pm). So we went to the luggage claming place.
I saw a Chinese girl moving luggages. She was in green shirt and wearing glasses, so I knew she was probably Wen. I called the name, and she answered. So we found the right people. Then I noticed her boyfriend, Kan Yao, moving the other two luggages. We moved all the luggages outside. Then Xuefeng and I drove the cars there. I planned to ask one of them to sit with Xuefeng, so he had someone to talk with on the way. But Xuefeng said he did not want to separate them
So Wen and Kan came with me, and I told them that the car they were sitting in is my friends'.
We talked sometimes on the way, but not much. After arrived at Lawrence, I stopped at QT to fill up some gas for Zheyan's car. They asked how much gas they should pay, and I said the average was about $20 (based on 20 miles/gallon) for a car. They asked if $50 was enough, and I said it was more than enough. But I accepted it, since they wanted to show their appreciation, and I could fill a little more gas for Zheyan's car. This is the first time I had ever charged gas fee for picking up people from the airport. And it was good. (why should I pay for the gas, anyway?)
Then we drove to Tower Front Office, and got their keys for their rooms. I called Yuan, he was in the office, but not very busy. So I asked him to come back to meet Wen and Kan. After we moved the luggages into their rooms, they wanted to have some sleep. But I suggested them to buy some food first if they could, in case they were starving when they wake up at midnight. Then they went shopping with Yuan, and I went home to return the car.
It is over now.
