In this course we do elementary linear algebra. This is mainly about solving linear equations in a more abstract orformal way.

Textbook:

Elementary Linear Algebra by Larson and Falvo.

Material to Cover

  1. Chapter 1 : System of linear equations (Sec 1-3)
  2. Chapter 2 : Matrices (Sec 1-3, 5)
  3. Chapter 3 : Determinants (Sec 1-2, 5)
  4. Chapter 4 : Vector spaces (Sec 1, 2, 5, 6)
  5. Chapter 5 : Inner product spaces (Sec 1, 4*)
  6. Chapter 6 : Linear transformations (Sec 1,3,5)
  7. Chapter 7 : Eigen-values and eigen-vectors (Sec 1, 4)

General Organization:

  1. I will collect homework everyday (or give a quiz).
  2. Online Course Manager and Homework: I use a online course manager for various reasons: You will need to know the following:
    1. We post grades (of quizes and tests) online.
    2. Sometimes I give homework online that you will have to submit online.
    3. You can access your online homework through the login pages Class at 11 AM or Class at ONE PM.
    4. You will need to know your KUID, Password, Line Number and Semester.
    5. I will assign your Lastname as password. First letter will be capitalized. Remember to change your password.
    6. Each Homework will have a due date. Before the due date you can resubmit your homework as many times as you want. After the midnight of the due date you will only be able to view the homework but not resubmit.
    7. You will also be able to see your grades online.
  3. Calculator: An advance calculator (TI-84) will be of great help.
  4. If you are a USER of Blackboard, you will receive emails from me on regular basis.
